TSCM, technical surveillance countermeasures, is the formal name for what clients call a bug sweep and we call a privacy sweep. The vocabulary changes with the audience; the discipline does not.

A TSCM service worth the name has three layers. Technical: examination of the radio spectrum against a recorded baseline, of GSM, Wi-Fi and network-connected devices, and of the wiring and systems a space legitimately contains. Physical: the trained hand-search of fabric, furniture and voids that no instrument replaces. Procedural: documentation of what was examined, what was found and what was done, so the result is evidence rather than reassurance.
